The first indication of a problem was when the radio was switched on via the remote. There was a loud, constant, electronic hum and there was a strong smell coming from the left hand integral speaker. No other sounds. This was tried several times. After the radio was switched off and unplugged, there was a residual smell, although not as strong.
A later test resulted in normal audio when the radio was switched on, but the strong smell was building, as in the previous test. There was still a residual smell, as before.

My headphones were shipped back to me fully repaired and 2 days ahead of original schedule.
